The purpose of creating the Children Of The Hoard documentary is to raise awareness about the harmful, squalid conditions that children of hoarders endure. Daily living is a nightmare for these innocent children. Hoarders will take over every space, including a child's bedroom and fill it floor to ceiling with stuff. The majority of this stuff would be considered garbage, but their fierce attachment to it means that if anyone in the house tries to clean up, the hoarder will become enraged. Children of hoarders live in constant shame and fear that their filthy house will be discovered. They're not allowed simple things like clean clothes, safe food, somewhere to study, parties or friends staying over.
Currently, there is no specific assistance tailored to helping children from hoarding environments. Much attention is given to hoarders, but Children Of The Hoard will show people that a child lives here.
